La Misión or Misión de San Miguel is a village in Baja California located on Mexican Federal Highway 1 approximately 41 miles south of the San Ysidro border crossing on the Gold Coast of the Baja California peninsula.
The 'La Mision' area includes Alisitos/La Fonda (exit off the toll road) and the iconic La Fonda restaurant, The La Mision 'Beach Side' community which sits in front of the actual beach, Puerta Al Valle (Km 62.5 on the free road) which is the de facto community center and host of the famous Saturday Market every week. La Mision also includes the village of Santa Anita which includes much of the locals population and a Monday Santa Anita community market.
The 'free road heads east towards more agricultural areas and downtown La Mision with the Police station, restaurants and others stores. Continuing on the 'Free Road' leads one towards the famous Valle de Guadalupe in about 20 minutes.

The defining natural feature of La Mision is the Estuary which runs from La Mision beach inland towards the free road. The La Mision Estuary is famous for fun kayaking, horse back riding, local rodeo activities, views of the Las Palmas Canyon (and campground) and dramatic waterfalls when it rains.
